Migrate to a recent version of the same system<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82f2f59 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"82f2f59\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"itcw-g\"><p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Your software exists for the new version, and its licences can be transferred.<\/li><li>A new workstation or server, physical or virtual, is available.<\/li><li>The data and settings to carry over have been listed.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Steps<\/strong><\/p><ol><li>Install the new machine alongside the old one.<\/li><li>Reinstall and configure the software.<\/li><li>Migrate data, accounts and access rights.<\/li><li>Have users test on the new machine.<\/li><li>Switch over, keeping the old one read-only for a while.<\/li><li>Retire the old machine after wiping its data.<\/li><\/ol><div class=\"box\"><strong>Migrate safely with virtualisation.<\/strong> Before you start, the system concerned can be converted as-is into a virtual machine, with no reinstallation. You then work on a copy: the migration can be repeated as many times as needed, users test without risk, and the original keeps running normally until the switchover. If a problem occurs, you can quickly return to the original state.
