There is a standard format for this, OVF, standardised as ISO\/IEC 17203:2017 <sup><a href=\"#source-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>, and hypervisors offer import tools: since version 8.2 (April 2024), Proxmox VE, for example, includes a wizard that directly imports VMware ESXi and vCenter virtual machines <sup><a href=\"#source-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ac25b1c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ac25b1c\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" id=\"hebergeur\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-db0a5cf\" data-id=\"db0a5cf\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d1ca46e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d1ca46e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Changing host, leaving the cloud<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-76ec7d1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"76ec7d1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"itcw-g\"><h3>Leaving a public cloud<\/h3><p>Outbound traffic is normally charged ($0.09 per GB beyond 100 GB per month at AWS <sup><a href=\"#source-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>). Since 5 March 2024, AWS has waived these charges for customers leaving AWS for another provider or their own servers; beyond 100 GB per month, you need to request this from AWS support <sup><a href=\"#source-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<h3>What the Data Act provides<\/h3><p>The European Data Act, applicable since 12 September 2025, governs switching cloud provider <sup><a href=\"#source-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup> <sup><a href=\"#source-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>:<\/p><ul><li>a maximum notice period of two months before the switch begins;<\/li><li>a transition period of 30 days at most, which can be extended to seven months if it is technically impossible;<\/li><li>at least 30 days after the transition to retrieve your data;<\/li><li>switching charges limited to direct costs, then <strong>prohibited from 12 January 2027<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><p>Traffic from parallel use (for example during a multi-cloud period) may, however, still be charged at cost <sup><a href=\"#source-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<h3>Proprietary services<\/h3><p>A \u00ab managed \u00bb database, a message queue or a cloud-specific function cannot be copied like a server: they must be replaced with an equivalent at the new provider. Within the European Union, personal data moves freely. To send it outside the Union, the GDPR imposes a framework (Chapter V): a country recognised as adequate by the Commission, standard contractual clauses or other appropriate safeguards <sup><a href=\"#source-7\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Some countries also require certain data to stay on their territory, and your clients may require this by contract. Have the framework validated by your legal adviser: for our part, we choose the host and region that comply with this framework, and we carry out the technical migration.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, think about the details that matter: response times for users who are further away, the timing of the switchover window, IP addresses and domain names to change.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-91fe5f5 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"91fe5f5\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" id=\"etapes\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a446e05\" data-id=\"a446e05\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a500473 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a500473\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The steps of a successful migration<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-814b2b8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"814b2b8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"itcw-g\"><ol>\n<li><strong>Take an inventory<\/strong>: servers, software, data flows between them, access rights, licences, hidden dependencies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Back up and check<\/strong> before touching anything: a full, restorable backup, independent of both the old and the new host.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choose the method<\/strong> server by server: reinstallation, copy or replication.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Test on a copy<\/strong>: start the migrated server in isolation and check that your software works.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare the switchover<\/strong>: a time window agreed with you, domain names ready, users informed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Switch over and check<\/strong>, with a rollback possible at any time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep the old server<\/strong> for a few days before shutting it down, then wipe the data properly.<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-1ac2ed1 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"1ac2ed1\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" id=\"conseil\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;,&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-40c8564\" data-id=\"40c8564\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d91feb elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0d91feb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Our advice<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c7f76bb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c7f76bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"itcw-g\"><div class='box ok'><p><strong>Our method:<\/strong> virtualised servers on a hypervisor we master (Proxmox VE, VMware, Virtuozzo or Hyper-V depending on the host or your choice), so that your servers can always be moved, and a <a href='https:\/\/www.wedoback.com' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>WeDoBack<\/a> backup as the foundation of every migration.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>An encrypted backup, independent<\/strong> of both the old and the new host, which can be restored to the new infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A safety net<\/strong>: WeDoBack recovery servers keep the business running if the switchover takes longer than planned.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tailored synchronisation<\/strong> for very large volumes: continuous replication between the source server and the target is not automatic;
